Memphis is a city in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It is the seat of Shelby County in the southwest part of the state; it is situated along the Mississippi River. With a population of 633,104 at the 2020 U.S. census, Memphis is the second-most populous city in Tennessee, after Nashville.

Shaping Town, the county seat, is between 103 °15'E and 103 °33 °E, with latitude 29 °15'N. It is 56 kilometers wide from east to west and 73 kilometers from north to south, covering an area of 2382 square kilometers. Located in the transitional zone between Sichuan Basin and Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, it belongs to subtropical humid monsoon climate. Due to the great difference in topography and height, the temperature varies with altitude, and the vertical difference is obvious. The county has jurisdiction over 19 townships and 129 villages with a total population of 153000, including 56000 Yi people.
