The Kansas City metropolitan area is a bi-state metropolitan area anchored by Kansas City, Missouri. Its 14 counties straddle the border between the U.S. states of Missouri (9 counties) and Kansas (5 counties). With 8,472 square miles (21,940 km2) and a population of more than 2.2 million people, it is the second-largest metropolitan area centered in Missouri (after Greater St. Louis) and is the largest metropolitan area in Kansas, though Wichita is the largest metropolitan area centered in Kansas. Alongside Kansas City, Missouri, these are the suburbs with populations above 100,000: Overland Park, Kansas; Kansas City, Kansas; Olathe, Kansas; Independence, Missouri; and Lee's Summit, Missouri.

Huainan, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province, referred to as "Huai" and the ancient name "Zhoulai", is located in the central and northern part of Anhui Province, in the hinterland of the Yangtze River Delta and on the bank of the Huaihe River. it is known as "Zhongzhou throat, Jiangnan barrier" and "colorful Huainan". It is an important node of the urban agglomeration along the Huaihe River and the core city of Hefei metropolitan area. Huainan has a total area of 5571 square kilometers and has jurisdiction over 5 districts and 2 counties. By the end of 2016, the total population was 3.456 million. Huainan is the energy capital of China, the industrial granary of East China, the important industrial city of Anhui Province and one of the 13 larger cities of the State Council.
